Dear Co-Pilot Dad,
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner! In the spirit of the holiday of love, our wonderful Monday Listicles’ host, Stasha, has suggested we write about 10 “Oh, no you didn’t!” Gifts to Avoid for Valentine’s Day.
I know we are more the cherish-our–love-all-year-round sort, so we aren’t really big into this holiday. But, just in case you were inspired to give me a little somethin’-somethin’ – you might want to steer clear of the following:
1. DVDs of crime dramas or other disturbing entertainment. It won’t make me want to cuddle – it will make me lay awake afraid of every random noise while you are snoring away.
2. Clothing – I love you, but you have a terrible track record for buying clothes for me. Although I am somewhat flattered that I seem to be much thinner in your vision of me, when I try on clothes that don’t fit, I feel defeated and depressed. Clothing is a trap - a trap, I say!
3. A vacuum – You gave me one for Christmas a few years ago – and it was *great*, honey. Useful as they are, I am good for vacuums.
4. Tools – If we need them for a project, we’ll get them then.
5. Iron – I know you might think that our iron isn’t working because it hasn’t left the shelf in several years. But I assure you, it still works. I just found something that is a far-better wrinkle remover.
6. Video games – I know that they always say to give something that you would like to receive, but in this case… not so much.
7.On-the-go stain remover – I *so* appreciated this little stocking stuffer last year – but it sort of reminds me that I tend to dribble things on my clothes. My tendency to stain clothing is one of those quirky things you love about me, right? Right?
8. Bandages – I know I am clumsy, and I *love* that you want to make my boo boos better. And they are very practical for me to have around. But, *reminding* me that I am clumsy is not romantic. (Besides, I still have some of the ones you gave me at Christmas.)
9. Plants – I know you are not a flower-giver, but resist the urge to give me a plant. I am barely keeping the ones that we already have alive, as it is.
10. Hair colour or other beauty treatments – Unless it is a gift card to a swanky salon, best to leave anything related to hair to me. I have heard that it is good to keep a sense of mystery about these things.
So, there is a little list of things to avoid if you are considering gifts of Valentine’s Day. All you have to remember are three words: books, coffee or chocolate. Any of those – on their own or in combination – and my heart is yours. (Although, really, it is already!)
Love, Me
Tell me friends: What gifts would be your favourite (or not) at Valentine’s?
Linking up with Monday Listicles today

Had to nod my head at quite a few of those.
I’d be happy if he brought home pizza and then lit a few candles and we had a candlelit dinner at home.
That sounds good to me, too! I prefer simple celebrations.
Bandages and stain remover? ROFL (not that I don’t need them myself)

haha I would love a new vacuum, I have a thing for them and the more plants the better!! OTher than thatI do agree with that list!
I love plants; I just have trouble remembering to water them regularly.
It’s always chocolate for me. I’m a big fan of salted varieties at the moment, or chocolate-covered caramels with Himalayan pink salt from Purdy’s… oh, so good! Good post.

I am not a caramel fan, but I do love Purdy’s!
Aww, that was sweet…and funny. I’m with you on the books, chocolate and coffee.

Books, coffee and chocolate are just the best, aren’t they?

He did. He knows me so well.
Well, not chocolate because I give that up for Lent — but books and coffee sound like a winner. And I bought a dishwasher this weekend. Wooppie!

Yay for new dishwasher! I don’t know what I would do without my dishwasher. And yes, books and coffee are definitely winners.
It is never nice being a man this time of year…
It must be rough, Wayne. Good thing there are those willing to make lists to steer people in the right direction, right?
Oh yes, I once received a car vac! And while I realize that my car is a sty and needs some help, Valentine’s Day is not the day to remind me of this!
Love your list, it is hilarious!

Exactly! Vacuums are a great way to say “Happy Saturday!” or some other random day. Valentine’s Day is not the time to be reminding me that I need to clean something.
Maybe I should forward this list to my husband…Yes. Yes, I think I will. Visiting from SITS.

I *love* that button on the dryer too!! I don’t even know for sure where my iron is!

That button is the best! My iron is on a shelf in the laundry room, just in case. (Ha!)
We will be having a memorial service later this week for our avocado tree I think… Love the photo of you with the dryer. LOVE!!

Love that button! Sorry about your avocado tree. I might have to do the same for a plant of unknown name at our house. It doesn’t seem to enjoy the heat being on in the winter. Either that, or I have been forgetting to water it too often. (I admit, it’s probably the latter.)
What is this “iron” thing you speak of?
The gift certificate to a swanky salon though would be lovely, wouldn’t it, most of us won’t willingly spend that much money on ourselves when l’oreal works fine at home!

The iron is rarely seen at my house, but I have a vague recollection of one.
And yes, a trip to the salon is a treat – but most often it is a trip to the store for me.
Hahaha…funny list! Your husband is very uhhhh..practical. Yea that’s it…practical.
He is practical. He knows me very well.
Flowers… chocolates… promises you don’t intend to keep…

Books are a lot better idea.
